Clean and Clear Ears
I have been safely and professionally trained by UK Microsuction using the latest, up to date proceedures. I am trained in manual extraction, microsuction and irrigation (an up to date, less invasive version of syringing). I will not carry out any proceedures without making sure you are completely comfortable and kept updated with eveything that I am doing from start to finish. I will explain everything to you and show you the machinery I use. I have had the treatments I perform carried out on me so I know exactly how they feel and what they do. I have an up to date DBS which I am happy to share if necessary and am fully insured.
Before I can carry out any treatment to help relieve your ear problem I will need to find out from you what problems you are experiencing so we can discuss the treatments I offer and see if they are suitable for you. I will ask you about your general health that may be relevant to the symptoms you are experiencing with your ears. This is generally done over the phone and then we can arrange a suitable appointment for you. I am also able to provide evening and weekend appointments.
To prepare for your appointment it is essential to oil your ears 3-5 days prior to my visit. This softens the ear wax and makes the procedure more effective. Olive oil, almond oil or Earol can be used. I will explain how to do this on your consultation. If you do not oil your ears prior to your appointment I may not be able to remove your ear wax effectively. I am able to treat patients who wear Hearing Aids. I am insured to treat both children and adults. Prior to your appointment you will need to fill in a consent form and return it to me.
I will check the general health of the outside of your ear and check to see where there is any pain. I will use my Otoscope to look inside your ear and also show you using my camera if you would like to see so we can discuss and decide on the best form of treatment. Before and after photos of inside your ear canal can be taken if you are interested. These can also be sent to a Healthcare Professional if we find any issues.
A safe, painless proceedure that is used to gently suck visible ear wax out from your ear canal. A small, thin hollow probe is attached to a small suction machine. The suction is not high enough to cause any damage to the ear canal. It is also used when irrigation is not possible where you may have a perforated ear drum or grommets.
This can used to remove any visible ear wax in your ear canal, it is a safe and painless proceedure. Often used alongside microscution when irrigation is not possible where you may have a perforated ear drum or grommets.
Irrigation gently removes the wax by using a controlled, low pressure warm water jet. The jet is angled towards the ear canal wall rather than at the actual blockage, this helps to dislodge the blockage rather than push it further into the ear. After the procedure its essential that aftercare is followed to prevent the risk of ear infections. Therefore, it is important to keep your ears clean and dry for at least 3-5 days post procedure. You will be provided with aftercare information, but I will go through after care in depth after you appiontment.
Your ears need wax, it is healthy to find ear wax in your ears. It is made by glands just inside the entrance of your ear canal and it is needed to help keep your canal clear from debris and bacteria to enable sound to reach your eardrum. The wax usually comes out of your ear without you realising and with it comes any dirt or debris it picks up along the way. Many of us put things inside our ears on a daily basis which interferes with the ears natural cleaning causing a build of of wax. The ear canal is naturally designed to be kept clear, allowing airflow and sound to travel up your ear canal to your ear drum. A lot of us wear headphones, ear defenders, earpods and headsets as part of our job and recreational activities. Often we remove the hairs we can see at the entrance to our ear canals too for aesthetic reasons. Hearing aids placed inside the ears can also affect the ears ability to clear itself of earwax. The wearing of any of these devices can interfere with the ears own ability to clear wax by restricting the airflow inside the ear canal. The result of this is why you are on my website looking for a suitable treatment to help you clear your ears...
